Chironga High School has a rich historical legacy that began as a missionary settlement for the Evangelical team. Originally, it functioned as a vocational training center, offering courses in catering, home crafting, and teacher training, and even included a hospital. In 1961, the missionaries relocated to the present-day Karanda Mission Hospital, and the infrastructure was transferred to the local council.
The school’s development was interrupted between 1966 and 1979 due to the war, leaving the area abandoned for several years. Following Zimbabwe’s independence, Chironga was reopened as a secondary school in 1981, initially serving as an upper-top secondary institution. In 2006, the school was upgraded to a high school, further expanding its educational programs.
Today, Chironga High School continues to thrive with an enrolment of 370 students, dedicated to providing quality education and fostering community growth.
